Upholstery Cleaning: A Clear Winner

It might not be a topic you’ve thought much about, but if you own furniture that has fabric on it, or have fabric drapes in your home, you should give some time to considering the benefits of upholstery cleaning — specifically the advantages present in professional cleaning done by a company with years of experience improving the look, feel and longevity of upholstery.upholstery cleaning

Longevity? Absolutely. While most people consider only the aesthetic advantages of having clean furniture — no one can deny there’s something great about snuggling into a clean couch to read a book or watch TV — perhaps the single most important benefit of having your furniture and drapes professionally cleaned is that they will last longer because of it.

You almost certainly have a significant investment tied up in your furniture, and the longer it lasts, the better your return on that investment. Cleaning the fabric removes not only the deep down grime and oils that make furniture look and smell dingy, it also removes dust and dirt particles that contribute to the wearing of the fabric fiber itself. That’s because those tiny particles are sharp, and when the fabric moves — when a cushion is sat upon, for example — those sharp edges work back and forth on the fibers like tiny saw blades. Worn spots become holes that must be repaired — or the furniture itself must be replaced.

Add the benefit of longer life for your furniture to the pleasure of ridding yourself of stains and smells that regular vacuuming simply can’t remove from the fabric, and you’ve got a lot to tell you a professional upholstery cleaning is worth doing. Choose Upholstery Cleaning To Prolong Furniture Life

Thanks to an increased effort on the part of rug manufacturers (and their sales staff) to educate consumers about the benefits of professionally cleaning their carpets, most home and business owners are taking care of their carpet investment with at least an annual cleaning — and for high-traffic carpets, folks seem to “get” that they’re doing themselves a favor when they call in the pros even more often.

But not everyone is aware that the same dirt and grime that affects carpet can also cause problems with the fabric used in furniture and draperies — and that there’s no substitute for professional upholstery cleaning when it comes to protecting those items as well.upholstery couch

Letting those dust particles build up in upholstery has the same effect as in carpet; the tiny, sharp edges of these particles act like miniature razor blades, and every time someone sits on a couch or draws aside the drapes, those edges saw back and forth against the fibers within the fabric, gradually wearing them down and causing damage you can see and feel. Dirty upholstery isn’t just unsightly (and it is unattractive to say the least); that dirt is inexorably destroying your furniture.

Upholstery cleaning is a way to turn back that clock, allowing you to get the most out of your likely sizable investment in furniture and drapes. Removing those particles means you’re keeping the fabric fresh and new for longer — and the longer your furniture and drapes last, the longer you can go without having to pay to replace them. Just like with carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning is a sound financial decisions that will save money and frustration over time.

With Upholstery Cleaning, Cherry Hill Homes Save Money

Allbrite0404It might seem counter intuitive that hiring a professional upholstery cleaning service would be the most cost-effective way to deal with dirt and grime on your favorite pieces of furniture, but it’s important to realize that there are several advantages to calling in the pros instead of taking on problem fabrics on your own.

When they think about upholstery cleaning, Mount Laurel homeowners often feel they can tackle the small problems themselves — a stain in a favorite chair, for example, or a dingier-than-usual cast to their draperies. But more often than not, home kits for these problems can cost nearly as much as having a professional cleaning service come into your home to do the job — and, in the long run, are far less likely to address the problem.

Home upholstery cleaning kits tend to, of necessity, focus on cleaning dirt and grime from the surface of the fabric itself, rather than any deep-down ground-in soil that might be present. The reason for this is that the typical homeowner isn’t expected to have the steam equipment and high-pressure extraction devices standard in most professional upholstery cleaners’ “toolbelt” — and, without that equipment, there’s zero chance that the clean you see will be thorough.

Cleaning only the surface means that not only is the stain still “in there,” it’s going to be causing problems such as premature wear and failure of the fabric itself — a clean you can see is one thing, but one that you know goes deep inside will help ensure your favorite chairs will be around for years to come.

How to Clean a Microfiber Couch

Microfiber couches are incredibly comfy and stain-resistant but unfortunately, they don’t hide dirt very well. Although some darker colors help the dirt blend in (hiding it until you’re ready to clean it), lighter shades tend to show every bit of dirt and grime. This is especially troublesome if you have children, pets, or you’re plain old clumsy. It’s important that you learn how to furniture clean a microfiber couch properly because due to the fabric’s unique properties, you won’t be able to treat it like any other couch. So gather up a vacuum with a brush attachment, rubbing alcohol, a clean white sponge, and a clean white brush, and we’ll teach you how to clean a microfiber couch!

Although you can often simply remove your cushions’ covers and machine wash them, you will need another method to clean the arms and frame of the sofa. The first thing you should do is check the tag or care manual. Not all microfiber upholstery cleaning can be treated the same way, so it is vital that you read the information that came with the couch when you bought it. If you see a “W” on the tag, that means it is okay to use water.

What’s that? Yes, I said you can only use water if the tag approves it. Strange, I know.

One of the trickiest things about learning how to furniture clean a microfiber couch is dealing with the fact that you can rarely use water, a primary ingredient in most other types of cleaning. Even though they’re stain-resistant, most microfiber couches will be left with a watermark if you try to clean them with water. And even if you get that written go-ahead, use water and cleaning solutions sparingly (never soak or saturate the furniture).

If you can’t find a tag and don’t have a manual, be sure to at least test your planned cleaning method in an inconspicuous spot. As they say, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Now let’s get to it!

How to Clean a Microfiber Couch

1. Vacuum the couch first to remove all of that loose dirt, dust, and hair. A brush attachment works very well for this.

2. Spray rubbing alcohol on the sullied spots. Rubbing alcohol is a great alternative to water because it evaporates quickly and won’t soak the fabric.

3. Using a white, clean scrub sponge, rub the area with vigor. Although you can use the sponge side, the scrubbing side of the sponge will work best. It is important that the sponge is white so that it won’t transfer any of its color to the fabric. You could also use a sponge that is the same color as your couch. As you work, feel free to check out all the grime building up on the now-dirty side of the sponge, just to see how well the method is working.

4. When all of the dirt and grime is gone, stop and let the couch dry. Since you used rubbing alcohol, it shouldn’t take very long.

5. After all that rough rubbing, you may notice that the microfiber is flattened in certain areas. To fluff it back up again, use a clean brush with soft, white bristles to fluff up those little fibers.

Again, please be sure to do a test patch before you clean your entire couch. This is especially important when upholstery cleaning for couches with dark fabrics, like reds and browns, which may not react well with the rubbing alcohol.

Enjoy your clean couch!

Cleaning Challenges of Cotton-Based Upholstery

Because it is sturdy, absorbent, easily dyed, soft and comfortable to touch, cotton is a popular choice for clothing and upholstery.

Cotton Clothing vs. Cotton Upholstery

Cotton upholstery is very different from your cotton T-shirt. In upholstery, cotton may be blended with other fibers that have different characteristics and dye systems. Often the fabric is made up of multiple layers and can be quite thick.

Like your clothing, all upholstery – including cotton – must be cleaned periodically for appearance and health. Furniture manufacturers recommend cleaning your upholstery every 12-24 months.

Cotton-Based Upholstery: Cleaning Challenges

Unlike cotton clothing, which in most cases can be washed without major problems, you have to be very careful when cleaning your cotton upholstery. This creates challenges when cleaning.
The thickness of cotton-based upholstery can lead to ripples and distortion to the fabric texture when cleaned by an inexperienced upholstery cleaning company.
Second, while most cotton clothing is designed to be washed in the laundry with lots of water, detergents and agitation, upholstery fabric is not. Lighter colored cotton upholstery may turn brown or yellow as the cellulose material in the cotton breaks down. Dyes may bleed or run. With some cleaning agents, cotton fabrics can actually degrade and become weak or even split.
There is also the potential that the fabric will shrink. This leads to cushion covers not fitting properly, skirts and dust ruffles curling or wrinkling and other similar problems. That’s why you should never remove cushion covers to launder them.

A Few Upholstery Cleaning Guidelines

Most cotton-based upholstery fabrics can be cleaned safely with the right equipment, cleaning agents and proper training. Follow these guidelines to get the best results.
1.Test
Before we start cleaning, we routinely to test the fabric for dye stability, browning and potential shrinkage, as well as inspect for other possible issues.
2.Be Gentle
In addition to low moisture and controlled pH, some upholstery fabrics require the gentle hand of an experienced upholstery cleaning technician to avoid damage.
3.Protect your Investment
A fabric protector application should follow every cleaning to keep the fabric cleaner longer and help resist permanent staining.

How can you tell which fabrics are problematic? It’s hard to know without experience and training. That’s why it is important to trust your upholstery cleaning needs to Fresh Start. We put experience to work to clean your upholstery, regardless of the fabric. Call us at (856) 764-7966 or click here to request an upholstery cleaning quote.

Furniture Cleaning: Medford Homeowners Ensure The Longevity Of Their Assets

ALLBRITE1204Whether you’ve just moved into your first apartment or have settled into what you hope will be your last house, the furniture you’ve chosen for your home isn’t just there for show or comfort — it reflects the sort of person you’ve become over your lifetime. We understand that emotional tie to furniture can run deep — and that’s why we recommend you take care of that furniture by getting it professionally cleaned.

You don’t buy furniture expecting it to fall apart quickly, but if you don’t take care of it, it won’t be around as long as you’d like. Ground-in dirt can damage upholstery the same way it wears on fibers in carpet, gradually but inexorably making the fabric weaker and weaker until it’s likely to tear from even the slightest stress. The biggest benefit of upholstery cleaning Medford homeowners can realize is the extension of the life of that fabric — meaning the furniture can provide you with comfort and function for years longer.

There’s only so much surface cleanings and home vacuum cleaners can accomplish; our highly-trained and experienced upholstery cleaners bring state-of-the-art equipment to bear on ground-in grime and grease, bringing your furniture back to near-new condition and making your entire home feel — and smell — cleaner. There’s nothing quite like a clean house, and professional furniture cleaning can amplify that effect and bring it to every room in your home — and every seat a guest might choose to take.

If you’d like to find out why we’ve become the professional furniture cleaning experts Medford homeowners recommend most to their friends and family, please contact us today. We look forward to hearing from you and finding ways to help you protect your furniture well into the future!

The Upholstery Cleaning Burlington Deserves

ALLBRITE1104There’s no two ways about it; no matter how careful we are, our favorite furniture always seems to fall prey to soil and grime. Tile and Grout Cleaning: Like-New Results

ALLBRITE0904Whether you’ve got tile installed in a kitchen, bathroom, or anywhere on the floor of your home, you know by now that it’s a durable choice and has many advantages. One of the disadvantages, as you’ve almost certainly also discovered, is that light-colored grout that looks fantastic the day it was installed has a tendency to attract stains and dark spots — and that taking on the task of tile and grout cleaning in your home is a daunting proposition. If you’ve spent a few hours on your hands and knees with a toothbrush scrubbing away at grimy-looking grout, trying increasingly toxic hardware-store cleaning brews in an effort to get that white back, you may have begun to believe the only way to restore that bright white grout finish is to completely replace the tile.

The good news is, our professional tile and grout cleaning service gets you off your knees and takes care of that drab, graying look by cleaning in ways you never thought possible. After a deep-cleansing high-pressure hot water treatment, our careful and considerate staff begin to draw all the suspended dirt and soil particles back out of the tile and grout, leaving behind grout that’s as bright as the day you put it in. After we use professional-strength equipment to thoroughly remove all the water, our proprietary grout sealing compound it laid down, to help protect the newly-cleaned areas from even the harshest of staining agents. Once that compound dries, we gently buff out the affected area and thoroughly inspect our coverage — and if we need to do it again to endure every inch is thoroughly protected, we’ll keep going until the job is perfect and you get to enjoy a floor just like new!

So don’t replace your tile — contact us for a professional tile and grout cleaning today!

Protecting Your Investment with Upholstery Cleaning

ALLBRITE0903When you buy furniture like chairs or a couch, you expect them to last. But just like your carpet, your upholstery can be cheated out of years of its life when neglected. That’s why the first step in protecting your furniture should be investing in regular professional furniture cleaning — to extend the life of your furniture, and help prevent the long-term damage caused by not cleaning.

Look around your home — your furniture probably represents the biggest single outlay of funds involved in turning a house into a home. Choosing a professional upholstery cleaning company to take care of your furniture cleaning needs is an important part of caring for your investment, making it last longer. Much like carpet, the upholstery on furniture collects dirt and grime deep inside the fibers of the fabric involved, working its way into every crack and every crevice — and gradually, cumulatively causing more and more wear on those fibers, until a tear or other damage is almost guaranteed.

Removing that ground-in dirt and grime doesn’t just make furniture look and smell better — which of course it does. More importantly, it extends the life of that furniture, and allows homeowners to enjoy their investment longer. For your furniture to look its best year after year, there’s nothing as effective as deep furniture cleaning, performed by the same company you trust to maintain the look, feel and durability of your carpets. Let our highly-skilled and highly-experienced upholstery cleaning staff tackle everything from broad cleaning of dingy couches to stubborn stains on armchairs, knowing you’ve put your furniture investment into the hands of seasoned professionals.
